Apostle John’s friend Polycarp tried to stop Easter & Keep Original Ways.

This Thursday at dusk, consider watching the movie Passion of the Christ, watching specifically the scenes were he is beaten and crucified. With that imagery fresh on your mind, break bread, drink grape juice in remembrance of Yahshua ( Jesus). Bow your head, repent, praise and thank. You are no longer a slave to sin. Your Messiah died for you, sent the Spirit of Truth to empower you to die to self.

Why Should You Break Bread, Have A Remembrance Meal this Thursday, April 18 at Dusk?

Early believers custom was celebrating Passover beginning with the eve of the 14th day of Nisan (or Aviv in the Hebrew Bible calendar), which at dusk is biblically the “Yahshua’s Passover.” Remember, Jesus had his Passover meal, breaking bread, cleansing feet, the evening before the rest of Israel. He was crucified at the same time that Israel was slaughtering sheep for their meal which would have been on of Aviv 15. ( Nisan 15)

There was a believer named Polycarp that learned from the disciple John. According to Eusebius, Polycrates of Ephesus, Polycarp defended the original memorial of Yahshua’s death. It’s called the Quartodeciman Controversy.

Today Jewish Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread is seven days, starting with the sunset at the beginning of Nisan 15. ( John would have started on Nissan 14)

Irenaeus, a leading Christian Theologian in the 2nd century says that Polycarp visited Rome when Anicetus was bishop (c. 68-153), and they the discussed the divergence of original apostles custom. They also discussed passionately in opposition about Rome instituting the festival of Easter in place of the Pasch. ( Passover)

Irenaeus noted:

Neither could Anicetus persuade Polycarp not to observe what he had always observed with John the disciple of our Lord, and the other apostles with whom he had associated; neither could Polycarp persuade Anicetus to observe it, as he said that he ought to follow the customs of the presbyters that had preceded him.[6]

Unfortunately, Rome carried on, influencing the mass of believers. Rome not only changed the original Passover way of celebrating Passover, but also he stopped the way the original apostles memorialized the death of Yahshua’s, our last sacrifice. What the Apostle John taught Polycarp was lost in the history books for most. Manmade and pagan distortions, disconnected us from what Jesus would have wanted.

Scriptures to Reflect On:

Exodus 12:1515For seven days you are to eat bread made without yeast. On the first day remove the yeast from your houses, for whoever eats anything with yeast in it from the first day through the seventh must be cut off from Israel.

1 Corinthians 5:6-86Your boasting is not good. Don’t you know that a little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough? 7Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch-as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. 8Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old bread leavened with malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
